I have mentioned the need for some help in our upcoming Good Friday service and haven't heard much of anything from anybody. We are doing a readers theatre type thing in the service in an overview of the life of Christ. We need 3 or 4 people who would be willing to read in this part of the service that will add a lot to the weekend. Let me know if you are interested, or would like to see the script.
Finally we've finished charting 1 John 2:1-14... it only took 3 months (maybe four? i can't really remember, it's been sooo long). I'm really happy with the way that chart turned out, and the way that you guys worked so hard to get to the heart of what John was saying. I'm looking forward to getting to the second half of that chapter... only 2 weeks!
I was thinking that it would be really cool to recap our series for the adults on Sunday night. If I could get four people to review our first four weeks of Pity the Fool, that would be awesome!
Week 1 - The Worlds Wisdom [James 3:13-18]
The result of worldly wisdom is selfishness, self-centeredness, self-promotion
God's wisdom will be demonstrated by it's fruit
God's wisdom is characterized by other-centeredness
Week 2 - The Fool Says There is no God [Ps 14:1-3 & 5b-7, Ps 53:5, Romans 1:18-23]
The fool rejects God
not being a fool means more than just acknowledging that God exists. it means letting God be King over all we are.
The wise lets God rule over his entire life
Week 3 - The Fool is Wise in his own eyes [Pr 1:1-19, Pr 12:15, Rom 1:22, 1 Co 2:6-16]
Fools reject (real/Gods) wisdom for their own, but the wise seek God's wisdom
The fool relies on the worlds counterfeit wisdom instead of God
Week 4 - The Fool's Foundation [Mt 7:16-27]
Hearing & heading the words of Jesus makes one wise, but the fool lives by his own accomplishments
The fool rejects Jesus
The fool relies on what he can do for himself, like the pharisees
I'm not asking for a lot; read a passage or two, and explain the fools character or worldview and lay out the main idea. Maybe a minute or two at most.
I asked Asa if he would do this past weeks lesson... and I would do a wrap-up-preview for this coming week - The Great Reversal.
& we need your help... Our plans are to do a winter retreat recap from way back at the beginning of January and we def need to hear from you.
Here's how you might get involved.
Sing with the music
Do your own music
Share a testimony about camp
Share a funny story about camp
Help with the skit
Help set up and take down before and after the service
Help set up and take down for the coffee house
There are a lot of ways for you to get involved this weekend.
and don't forget we have Bible Study right after the second service. We will do lunch, then continue our study in 1 John, after which we will goof round till we need to set up and practice for the youth service at around 4:30.
The purpose of the Youth Website, blog, and forum are to interact with topics relating to the Student Ministry of CMBC. Let's try to keep our conversations on topic, and not get into personal areas.
Think Ephesians 4:1-5:21. Our speech should always be positive, uplifting, encouraging, exhorting, and Jesus glorifying.
(4:2-3) with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace
(4:15a) speaking the truth in love
(4:25) laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.
(4:29-5:4) Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
(5:11-17) Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.” Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
(5:21) and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
