Thoughts on worship

I have been thinking about the church's concept of worship a lot lately. And I've gotten a little frustrated. There seems to be two predominant streams of thought when it comes to worship today... 1) what makes me feel good, and 2) what we've always done, a.k.a. tradition!
See, some people say that worship should be what makes me happy, or comfortable, or even entertained. Others say worship
should remain how we've always done worship. The problem with both of these lines of thinking is... it's not about God. Where does exalting God fit into what makes you feel good, or even connected? Where does praise and worship fit into our narrow view of tradition? Worship HAS to be centered around the person and character of God or it doesn't belong in church. If somehow worship becomes about our tastes, and what we feel comfortable with, than we have turned it into something other than what God intended.
Don't get me wrong, our expression of worship is going to be dramatically different depending on our culture and backgrounds, temperaments and personalities. We can not let these expressions become our definition for worship though.
In the two weeks we have following our series on worldview's, we will begin exploring the Biblical answer to today's "worship wars."

I completely understand where your comming from and agree. I find myself falling under the catagory of "if it makes you feel good and connected" and am trying to break the habbit. Jam really helped me do that, especially when we were singing those songs together sat night. I still felt "good" but it was because I was completely focusing on the Lord, and nothing else mattered. Ya know, we never finnished that conversation about types of worship in the van ride home like you said, but oh well :) btw, you never signed my shirt, so ya gotta do that tomorrow ;D
