Discouragement

How do you deal with discouragement? When something doesn't go the way you had hoped, or planned, how do you respond?

What does the Bible say about discouragement and frustration? Look to the story of Elijah when he runs from Jezebel after his victory at Mount Carmel.

Personally, discouragement and disappointment come after mountain-top experiences with God and other believers. I think this is what you find with Elijah too.

But again, I ask, how are we to handle these emotions?

Please, weigh in.

aww, Josh, bad boy for taking ur ideas from another speaker! hehe jkjk, luv the reminder of what we learned at jam... usually when I get REALLY discouraged about something, I slip into this mini-depression mode, where nothing seems worth it anymore, and life just seems to suck. Then, even though at the time I don't really want to, I forces myself to pull out my Bible, ask the Lord to show my fingers the right passage for how I'm feeling, randomly open my Bible, and start reading. Usually I've opened up to right where I need to be... and suddenly the light comes! I love life and the Lord again, all is well, and there ya go! It's certainly not perfect, and I'm still disappointed about whatev it is, but I can handle it by knowing that the Lord has a perfect plan for my life and that he allowed this to happen for a reason. Then I'll spend practically forever in prayer and reading my Bible cuz I just can't get enough... (I wish I were like that all the time). So yep, that's what I do in a very condensed version. (sorry the post is so long! :)

Personally, I really agree with Kathryn! I have found when I'm really reall down, I ask God to just reveal to me what I'm missing and suddenly it makes sense that no matter what I'm going through, God's there and he really kows where everything is heading and he will give me life direction! The two that always pop into my head when I'm having a hard day are:

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Thanks for the question!
Kay
